The Canadian province welcomes 1/3rd of all newcomers every year. People opt to land in Ontario because of its attractive job offers, high income & varied population. In fact, more than half the population living in Toronto were born outside of Canada.
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, through this program, prospective immigrants with high skills and experience targeted by the province may obtain a provincial nomination from Ontario, after which they can apply for Canadian PR with IRCC.
Ontario PNP Overview
Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) launched in 2007. The main purpose of the OINP is to respond to skill shortages in targeted areas, make it easier to invest in Ontario, and ensure that newcomers have settled and integrated well in the province or not.
When it started, the Ontario PNP was only permitted to nominate up to 1k newcomers. Today, Ontario nominates around 8k newcomers every year.
Various Ontario immigration streams are base streams & some others are enhanced streams.
Enhanced streams are those that are lined up with the Express Entry system. This is the federal immigration system that Canada uses to manage PR applications through the country’s 3 main economic class immigration programs.
Through this system, an applicant is given a point score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System. The highest-ranking applicants are then invited to apply for PR.
The provincial program that is enhanced gets an extra 600 points, effectively guaranteeing obtaining an Invitation to Apply for PR. They also obtain their nomination through their Express Entry profile.
Base streams are not lined up with the Express Entry systems. Applicants who obtain a provincial nomination are needed to apply directly to IRCC.
Ontario Immigration Categories
If you desire to immigrate to Ontario, then you have 4 categories to choose from they are as follows:
- Human Capital Category;
- Masters or PhD Category;
- Employer Job Offer Category;
- Business Category.
The Human Capital Category is only for skilled workers, French speaking skilled workers. It is also for international graduates who graduated from an university of Ontario with a Masters or PhD degree. No job offer is needed to register through this category.
The Employer Job Offer Category is for applicants who have a qualified job offer in Ontario from an employer who has the power to nominate them.
